Platyhelminthes:  Planaria

Purpose:  The purpose of this lab is to introduce the student to a flatworm called planaria, an example of the phylum Platyhelminthes.

Materials and Methods:  This lab requires prepared slides of planaria, microscopes (compound and dissection), lens paper, and a culture of live planaria if possible.

Experiment:  Examine the prepared slide of planaria on low power.   Depending on the staining techniques some or all of the structures shown below should be evident.  If living planaria are available, examine them under the dissection microscope.
