The Periodic Table

Purpose:   The purpose of this experiment is to learn the symbols of biologically important elements and to learn how to use the periodic table to determine information about elements.  The student will diagram four atoms using the Bohr Model.

Materials and Methods:   The instructor will explain how to determine the following information from the periodic table:

C HOPKINS CaFe Mg NaCl (read as:  See Hopkin's cafe mighty good salt.)

atomic number, proton number, mass number, neutron number, periods, shells, groups, total electron number, valence electrons

metals, nonmetals, metalloids

Experiment:  Determine the atomic number, proton number, mass number, neutron number, periods, shells, groups, total electron number, valence electrons for sodium, magnesium, oxygen and chlorine.

Conclusion:  Using information above, diagram each of the four atoms using the Bohr Model.
