Annelida:  Earthworm

Purpose:  The purpose of this lab is to introduce the student to the organ systems and body plan of an earthworm, a representative of the phylum Annelida.

Materials and Methods:  This lab requires preserved earthworms, xs slides of the earthworm, dissection pins and trays, microscopes (compound and dissection), and lens paper.

Experiment:  Examine the prepared earthworm slide cross-sections on low power.   Also, examine a demonstration dissected earthworm.  Note parts of digestive system in the dissected demonstration.

Conclusion:  (Please use your text or the internet as a resource.)

The drawings shown below illustrate key features of the earthworm "systems."  Based on these diagrams and your observations of the slides and preserved specimens, complete the table below.

circulatory system (hearts)
nervous system
excretory system
skeletal system
respiratory system
reproductive system
digestive system (list parts)
sense organs
body shape, plan
locomotion
